It’s ‘the’ place to hang out – be there, or be square!
Plonked smack bang in the middle of Boas Ave, The Cube is Joondalup Festival’s landmark digs for 2025.
This curious cubic container is set to become the centrepiece of a vibrant hang-out hub in Joondalup proper, with a pop-up bar, foodie snacks and cosy nooks to watch as the multi-dimensional space comes to life.
As night falls each evening, The Cube’s four walls will be illuminated in anticipation of a performance treat – maybe a kinetic dance spectacle, a rambunctious swing session, or a metamorphosis in action. Will you be blessed by glowing angels? Accosted by seriously silly security? Become tangled in the web of life? Venture behind the veil of mysticism? Whatever you stumble upon, your experience at The Cube is sure to be out of the box.
Created and presented by Born in a Taxi.
Pop-up Performances
Here are some of the fabulous follies you can expect to stumble upon when you visit The Cube, with performances on every night of the festival.
Light explodes as three illuminated angels glide through the crowd and enter the magical cube with playful, interactive rituals. The angels conduct a series of participatory events designed to unify an audience of strangers. Observe from afar, come and be blessed, or be chosen to cross over into the heavenly realm. Presented by Born in a Taxi.
Sunday Swing Sessions
Join an exhilarating pop-up swing session that promises to elevate your spirits and get your feet moving! Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or a complete beginner, our friendly instructors will guide you through the lively rhythms of swing dance, with local jazz legends. Grab your dancing shoes and come swing with us! Presented by Swingin’ At The Savoy.
Seriously silly, three security guards conduct absurd games, turning crowd control into an art form. High-status and restrained, the Guards play with power of coercion, superiority, and humour. They corral, test, judge, and choose who is worthy. Lines are drawn, rules are made, the audience is sorted, tensions mount, and power is transferred to the chosen ones. Presented by Born in a Taxi.
Come and celebrate the miracle of flight and metamorphosis at the Butterfly House. Meet a giant praying mantis or make friends with a caterpillar. Without these tiny alien-looking lifeforms, life on Earth would be very different. Presented by Born in a Taxi.
The 5.30pm and 6.45pm shows are perfect for children, while the 8pm show is created for adults.

From the realm of the deep night, the Sleep Keepers have come with their bed of dreams, to tuck you in and take you for a ride into the world of bedtime stories and lullabies. So just close your eyes and drift away. Presented by Kinetic Theatre.
