EVENT NOW OVER
Picture this: the sun rising over the northern lake at Sir James McCusker Park, the illuminated Crystal People sculptures still glowing softly in the early morning light, and you moving through a gentle flow of stretches and mindful breathing to start your Sunday perfectly.
We’re bringing calm, clarity and connection to your weekend mornings with these blissful sunrise yoga sessions led by the wellness experts from Craigie Leisure Centre. This isn’t about perfect poses or pushing your limits – it’s about waking up your body gently, centring your mind, and setting a peaceful tone for your day ahead.
Each hour-long session combines soft stretches, mindful movement and guided breathing techniques that flow seamlessly into a peaceful meditation. You’ll finish feeling refreshed, grounded and ready to embrace whatever Sunday brings. Whether you’re a seasoned yogi or you’ve never touched a mat before, this practice welcomes you exactly as you are.
There’s something magical about practising by the water as the world wakes up around you, especially with Ilotopie’s ethereal Crystal People installation as your backdrop. The fresh morning air, the gentle sounds of the lake, the soft light of dawn breaking across the water, the supportive energy of fellow early risers – it all combines into an experience that feeds your soul as much as your body.
Join us for one session or make it your Sunday ritual throughout March. BYO yoga mat, water bottle and sun protection (optional cushion for extra comfort during meditation). All you need to bring is yourself and a willingness to breathe, stretch and restore.
Breathe. Stretch. Restore. Repeat.

Extra things to know
Craigie Leisure Centre is one of Perth’s northern suburbs’ premier wellness and recreation facilities, located on Whitfords Avenue in Craigie. Operated by the City of Joondalup, the centre offers a wide range of fitness classes, aquatic programs and community wellness initiatives including over 150 group fitness classes weekly. Their qualified instructors specialise in providing inclusive, accessible fitness programs for all ability levels and ages, from early childhood programs to seniors’ activities.
These casual sessions are held lakeside at Sir James McCusker Park (corner Serena Way & Naturaliste Boulevard, Iluka). Meet near the northern lake edge, close to the Crystal People dancing couples installation.
Limited free parking is available around the park perimeter and in a small car park off Silver Sands Drive, or catch the 470 bus from Joondalup train station.
Classes take place outdoors on the grassed area beside the northern lake. The location is generally accessible, though participants should be comfortable getting up and down from the ground. Modifications and alternatives will be offered throughout the class to accommodate different ability levels. The outdoor setting means weather-appropriate clothing is essential.
