Characters

an immersive field trip of fun for everyone

From the mind of Australian Designer and Puppet Maker, Elias Ppiros, Characters is an interactive puppet-based exhibition combining puppetry, new found technology and interactivity.

Utilising the key senses of sight, sound, touch and movement, Characters invites children and their families to explore the world of puppetry and character building in a tactile self-paced environment.

Ranging from push button activated voice overs and sensory boards, to rotatable wheels giving the audience the ability to puppeteer their own puppet.

About the artist

Elias Ppiros is an Adelaide-based Designer and Puppet Maker working in the areas of Theatre, TV, Live Performance, Events, Exhibition, and Installation.

Elias made puppets for season one of Windmill Pictures and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s TV series Beep and Mort, and has worked with organisations world-wide including the State Theatre Company of South Australia, State Opera South Australia, Handspring Puppet Company, Windmill Pictures, Patch Theatre, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, the British Broadcasting Corporation, Slingsby Theatre, Restless Dance Theatre and Barking Gecko Theatre.

Elias holds a strong interest in the intersection of puppetry, audience interactivity and immersion. Believing puppets are a universal language, he aspires to make works that are accessible to all, while embracing puppets as a pathway to a rich, textural, and sensory world. Bringing happiness out of others and encouraging the never-ending pursuit for the exploration of the imagination are at the heart of all of Elias’ works.
